Press Report Janury 11th

The 3rd race of this season’s PECO cross country series was held on a sunny but cold Sunday morning at Roundhay Park. The Airecentre Pacers men’s team took to the course with verve and determination after coming in last in the previous race and to the surprise of everyone managed a narrow team victory in the Second Division. Scoring athletes for the Pacers were Leon Forster, Andrew Humphries, Owain Gwilym, Richard Walker, Graeme Cowling, Nick Jovanovic, Paul Grindley and David Cusack. The Ladies team also improved over last season and finished sixth, scoring athletes were Sally Haigh, Faye Cameron, Helen Alcock, Rachael Smith, Claire Hunter and Carly Dykes. Both teams now sit in 5th place overall.

Taylor Sebright-Pickard clocked 13.45 in the junior two mile race at Roundhay to take 20th position. Evie Walker and Grace Sebright-Pickard competed in the one mile event.

It was also a good weekend for the Pacer’s Ultra distance runners, Will Woodhead came 3rd in the 32 mile Sir Titus Trot along the route of the Leeds-Liverpool canal in a time of 4.49.40 . Gavin Birkett took on the legendary Fan Dance Black Edition, two mountain routes used as final selection for the SAS and organised by former members of the UK’s elite military. Gavin marched a total of 41k, climbed 1900 meters. The second march took place entirely at night in a howling gale in on the ice capped Brecon Beacons. Gavin said afterwards “blown off my feet numerous time and all in all bloody good fun but I will NOT be doing that again.”
